Mourinho: Man United Deserved Defeat Vs Huddersfield
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is dismayed at his side’s poor display against Huddersfield Town in an English Premier League fixture on Saturday.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 to Huddersfield Town – their first defeat to the Terriers since 1952.
Mourinho admitted after the game in his post-match interview that his side deserved to lose the encounter and were duly punished by their hosts.
“The team that wanted it more won. When the best team wins there is nothing to say,” Mourinho said.
“I don’t know why they wanted it more. I won’t be critical of my players in the media. I will analyse the game and, if I need to, I will criticise them.
“I was surprised by our performance, I was not expecting that. The team that started with emotion, aggression, intensity and desire, the team that played the game of their lives was the team that won.
“Maybe in the second half we wanted it a little more and maybe we could get a draw, but I honestly think we deserved the punishment of the defeat.”

CHELSEA MISSING MOSES

Arsenal Legend Keown: Chelsea Are Missing Moses

Arsenal Legend Keown: Chelsea Are Missing Moses
Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes that Chelsea are missing the services of Super Eagles forward Victor Moses.
Moses picked up a hamstring injury in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to struggling Crystal Palace  when he left the pitch in the first half.

The injury meant Moses sat out Chelsea’s 3-3 draw against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League.
Assessing Chelsea’s recent struggles which has seen them winless in their last three games, Keown said it was high time Antonio Conte come up with a new tactics.
“Conte needs to go back to the drawing board and assess whether this system is working,” Keown told Daily Mail.
“That is twice now, against Manchester City and Roma, that Chelsea have looked a bit lost.
“Those teams created a real issue in Chelsea’s system. Last season, Antonio Conte made a back-three the in-vogue system.
“I have plenty of admiration for Conte as having played in that system myself, I never thought it could work.
“But against City and Roma the back three became a five. The Blues were so effective last season because their wing backs stayed high to affect the game.
“Now, they are just defenders. They really miss Victor Moses.”
Chelsea hope to bounce back from their recent poor run when they entertain Watford in today’s (Saturday) early kickoff match.

MOURINHO

Mourinho Opens Up On Rashford Fitness, Pogba, Zlatan, Transfers, Huddersfield Clash

Mourinho Opens Up On Rashford Fitness, Pogba, Zlatan, Transfers, Huddersfield Clash
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Marcus Rashford is fit and available for Saturday’s game against Huddersfield Town in the English Premier League but is uncertain when Paul Pogba will return for Manchester United.
Rashford suffered a knee injury against Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday but looks set to feature in Saturday’s clash at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Mourinho side currently second in the table will be looking to maintain his unbeaten start to the EPL season on the back of their 1-0 midweek win away at Benfica in the UEFA Champions League.
“Nobody else. Same players. We have the same players as we had for the Benfica match,” Mourinho said during his pre-match press conference after confirming that Rashford is available.
“Everybody knows every manager wants to have all the players available it’s just then a question of the way you position yourself in relation to that, the best way you think is to do it.
“For some it’s better to remember the team is not in its full strength, is better to remember play A or B and C or D is still important for the team. The way we try to do it is always to speak about opportunities for others.
“Doesn’t mean I don’t miss the players, I would like them to be here for us. And yes in answer to your question, nobody is back from injury but what we have is good.
“Paul Pogba is not here, I don’t know when he comes back, when he is available, I don’t know about it.”
On Saturday’s game at Huddersfield, Mourinho also warned his team that they will pay dearlry if they underrate the newly promoted side.
jose-mourinho-manchester-united-epl-marcus-rashford-paul=pogba-completesportsnigeria.com
Huddersfield are currently 12th in the table with two wins, three draws and three defeats so far this season.
“We are silly if we don’t know what is expecting for us, unless it’s a new player in the Premier League which we have only Victor, apart from that everybody knows the Premier League and knows what it means to play against newly promoted teams, is nothing new.
“Every team in the Premier League is good and thinks well, that they can win every match against every opponent. The players will be buzzing and the supporters will be happy to have a big club playing in their stadium.”
Mourinho also declined responding to questions regarding any winter signings in January.
“I don’t know what to say. Yes is true I wanted four players and I think clearly everybody knows the position, maybe you know the player, didn’t happen but we adapt to it and try the best we can.
“The injury process normally is some guys get injured, some guys recover from injury unless we lose completely the balance this happens to almost every team unless some team has a phenomenal season and not even a broken nail happens to a player.
“But what I expect from a normal season is Zlatan will be back and Marcos will be back, and Pogba and Fellaini will be back and someone will get injured.
“I don’t want to speak about signings yet, or market or January, we are in October, we have November, December and half of October to play, so why should I speak about the market.”
“Zlatan is here, under our control, working as I would expect, so, so hard, but he’s not back in a week or a couple of weeks,” said Mourinho.
“Let’s let him take his time and be back in the right moment. Do I think he will be back in 2017? Yes I do, but it’s just a feeling.”

Eto’o Scores As Antalyaspor Deny Omeruo First League Win With Kasimpasa

Eto’o Scores As Antalyaspor Deny Omeruo First League Win With Kasimpasa Cameroonian superstar Samuel Eto’o was on target as Kenneth Omeruo’s  wait for a win in his second spell in the Turkish Super Lig with Kasimpasa continued on Friday night.
Super Eagles defender Omeruo was in action in Kasimpasa’s 2-1 loss away to Antalyaspor on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Omeruo played all 90 minutes in his fifth appearance this season for Kasimpasa who dropped to the 15th position in the league table after nine league games this season following their fifth defeat of the campaign.
The 24-year-old Nigeria defender has featured for Kasimpasa against Galatasaray, Osmanlispor, Sivasspor and Antalyaspor which all ended in defeats while the only point he gained with his side was against Kayserispor.
Friday night’s game was Omeruo’s 56th appearance in the Turkish Super Lig.Goals from Eto’o in the 43rd minute and Deniz Kadah in the 74th minute cancelled out an opener from Jhon Murillo in the 23rd minute of the game. Murillo was later sent off for a second bookable offence in the 53rd minute of the ill-tempered game that saw referee Umit Ozturk issue 10 yellow cards and a red card.
Omeruo is poised to make a return to the Super Eagles squad for their dead rubber World Cup qualifying clash against Algeria next month.
Kasımpaşa will take on second division side Niğde Belediyespor in the Turkish Cup Fourth round clash next Tuesday.

MANCHESTER CITY

Why Manchester City Are Going To Be Hard To Stop This Season

Why Manchester City Are Going To Be Hard To Stop This Season
Manchester City have made an impressive start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign as they have blown away a number of their opponents in impressive style so far which puts them on track to break Chelsea’s record of 103 goals in one season.
Pep Guardiola made several changes this summer to ensure his squad has more quality and depth and that investment appears to be paying off. The biggest weakness City had last season was their backline and goalkeeper. Ederson has arrived Benfica and looks solid between the sticks. He saved a penalty in the Champions League recently against Napoli in their 2-1 win, while the little he has had to go do in the Premier League, he has done well.
One of the most notable improvements City have made this season is the amount so of energy at full-back/wing-back. Kyle Walker was sigend from Tottenham and has settled in quickly. The England defender has the legs to support in the final third of the pitch and is still be able to perform his defensive duties when his side don’t have the ball.

The biggest shining star from City’s impressive squad this season has been Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian is playing the best football of his career and is arguably the best player in the Premier League at the moment. The City midfielder has been consistently dissecting defences which is pinpoint passing and has just been so difficult to stop. Indeed, De Bruyne is amongst  most highly-rated performers in world football this season.

DE BRUYNE

De Bruyne Claims Premier League Title Fight Is Straight Fight Between Manchester Teams

De Bruyne Claims Premier League Title Fight Is Straight Fight Between Manchester Teams
After eight weeks and with two points separating the city rivals, Kevin De Bruyne believes the Premier League title race is already between Manchester City and United, but warned that could change quickly.
De Bruyne and City have made a scintillating start to the campaign, winning seven and drawing one of their opening eight games and United are the only other unbeaten side remaining and they hold a three-point buffer to third-placed Tottenham.
De Bruyne said it appeared the title battle was between City and United – for now.
“For the moment I think so, but everybody’s still there,” the Belgium international told ESPN FC.
“It’s so early, if you lose two or three games you go back to a [lower] position. We have to maintain this hopefully.”
Pep Guardiola’s side have been lauded for their style this season and have netted 29 league goals and conceded just four.
De Bruyne believes City are producing the types of performances their Spaniard boss wants.
“I think we’re pretty much what he wants,” he said.
“Obviously one game is going [to be] better than the other ones and one time we will look more like his team than another, but I think the way we play is always the same.
“We play dominant football and like to put a lot of pressure on them and if you can do that, it works well. It’s hard to go full pace all the time but at the moment everyone is in great shape.

KOEMAN

Koeman: Everton Players Will Prove Doubters Wrong, Arsenal Are Beatable

Koeman: Everton Players Will Prove Doubters Wrong, Arsenal Are Beatable
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is backing his struggling players to come good as they prepare to host Arsenal in a Premier League clash on Sunday.
Despite bringing in several new players in the summer, including Wayne Rooney and big money signings Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Michael Keane, Everton have struggled both in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.
“It’s not time to talk about reasons. We need to sort the situation now. We need to prepare for Sunday,” Koeman said during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“Of course we have discussions inside and speak about fixtures and stuff but the position of the table is not the position Everton need to stay in. We need to change that.
“I still believe in the players and signings in the summer. Maybe everybody can have doubts at the moment but the future will tell that they are good signings.
“The support from the owner hasn’t changed. We have daily, weekly contact. Everyone is a bit worried about the situation but that’s normal.”
Despite Everton having just eight points from eight matches in 16th place in the Premier League table, Koeman is confident his team can beat Arsenal.
He added: “If you look back to last season, we had good games at home against big teams in the Premier League.
“Arsenal aren’t unbeatable and haven’t been that strong away from home. We need to improve and play better. If we bring fight and aggression in a good way we have a good chance.”

GIROUD HAPPY

Europa League: Giroud Happy To Score ‘Lucky’ Goal Against Red Star

Europa League: Giroud Happy To Score ‘Lucky’ Goal Against Red Star
Arsenal made it three wins out of three Europa League games when Olivier Giroud scored with a brilliant overhead kick in the 85th minute to see Arsene Wenger’s men to a 1-0 victory in Belgrade on Thursday night.
And the France international said he would have preferred to link up with a team-mate, but he had no options before he superbly put his effort into the top corner.
“In that position, I can control the ball and try to play with another team-mate,” Giroud told UEFA.
“But I didn’t see anyone so I tried to take it as I can, a little bit like [against Crystal] Palace [in January], I’ve been a bit lucky because it’s top corner and it’s the back of the net.
“It’s nice for the team, I’m happy for the team because we’ve been resilient until the end and we keep believing in our game and we knew it was going to be a tough game and just needed to be patient and play our game with our qualities. “It has been very difficult because it’s an amazing atmosphere here, special atmosphere, the crowd is behind their team and it was a tough game but we’re very pleased with the three points.”
The win came after Red Star had been reduced to 10 men through Milan Rodic’s red card and Arsenal go back home to face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Champions League: UEFA Charge Roma After Racist Chants At Rudiger In Chelsea Draw

Champions League: UEFA Charge Roma After Racist Chants At Rudiger In Chelsea Draw
Italian side AS Roma face action from UEFA after European football’s governing body opened disciplinary proceedings over alleged racist chanting during the team’s 3-3 Champions League draw at Chelsea on Wednesday.
Quick strikes from David Luiz and Eden Hazard were cancelled out by Aleksandar Kolarov and a brace from Edin Dzeko, before a header from Eden Hazard salvaged a point for the stuttering Chelsea.
An absorbing clash at Stamford Bridge was marred when a section of supporters were heard targeting defender Antonio Rudiger, who left Roma for Chelsea in the transfer window.
Visiting fans have been accused of making “monkey chants” after the Germany international shielded the ball out of play while under pressure from forward Stephan El Shaarawy.
Before his departure from Roma in May, for an initial £29m, he told the German sports magazine SportBild: “Racism is a serious issue here. Incidents like the ones with (Juventus’s Medhi) Benatia and me simply happen too often in this country and that is why something must happen now.
“When the Italian FA is not doing anything then Fifa must act. It is easy to come up with the ’No to racism’ campaign but when you don’t do anything concrete then that does not help.”
Chelsea had taken a 2-0 lead against the Italians on Wednesday before falling 3-2 behind and eventually securing a draw through Eden Hazard’s equaliser.
UEFA confirmed the case will be examined by its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on November 16, a little over two weeks after the return fixture takes place at the Stadio Olimpico.
Spartak Moscow were charged over a similar offence relating to a Youth League match against Liverpool on September 26.
The draw ensured Chelsea remain top of Group C after three matches, two points ahead of Roma.

ROHR

Rohr: We’ll Test New Players Against Algeria, Play Friendlies Against European Opposition

Rohr: We’ll Test New Players Against Algeria, Play Friendlies Against European Opposition
Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has revealed his plans to use the dead-rubber 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria on November 10 to test some other players who were overlooked during the previoous games.
This, according to him, is to give the coaching staff a larger pool of players to choose from when preparations for the World Cup begins in earnest.
“We are planning to use some players who did not get the opportunity to play before now. We want to give them the opportunity to show us what they can offer. Of course we are not planning to lose the game against Algeria but we are already preparing for the World Cup. So you will see new faces in the team,” Rorh said on a television interview monitored in Lagos.
The German-born tactician also said plans are in top gear to engage some European countries in friendly games in the run-up to the World Cup as part of the team’s build-up.
He said: “We will be playing friendly games against some European countries because, as you know, each group at the World Cup will have two teams from Europe so it is good to have a feel of what we are likely going to be coming up against at the competition. We will see who we get when the World Cup draws are made on December 1 but no harm in planning ahead.”
The Super Eagles have qualified for thew World Cup with a game to spare after nicking the sole ticket from Group B ahead of Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria.

IBRAHIMOVIC IS READY

Manchester United Get Ibrahimovic Boost With Striker Tipped To Return By December

Manchester United Get Ibrahimovic Boost With Striker Tipped To Return By December
Manchester United will be boosted by news of the imminent recovery of Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the recuperating striker was tipped to return to action as early as December by former striker Andy Cole.
The 36-year-old, who signed a new one-year deal with the club in August, has been battling to recover from a serious knee ligament injury sustained in the Europa League clash with Anderlecht at Old Trafford in April.
Cole has also been using United’s facilities at the AON Training Complex as part of his recovery following a kidney transplant in April.
The former Red Devils striker, who is progressing well in his rehabilitation despite admitting it has been “a lot harder” than expected, says Ibrahimovic is showing signs he is getting close to a return.
“He is doing very good,” he told MUTV. “I had a chat with Zlatan when he was in the gym the other day. I think he is looking forward to coming back, most probably in December or January time.
“I think he will definitely bring something to the football team, as we already know. After last season, he was fantastic. It will be nice to see him back when he returns.
“Like he keeps saying, he is not human. I love his banter and I think his enthusiasm for the game of football, and what he is around the complex, speaks volumes about him.”
Ibrahimovic’s return will bring some competition for £75million striker Romelu Lukaku, who enjoyed a superb start to his United career but has now gone two games without a goal.
The Belgium international was criticised for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool last Saturday, after which Dejan Lovren accused him of deliberately catching him in the face with his boot following a challenge near the halfway line.
Lukaku has been accused of failing to impress against the Premier League’s best sides in his career in England but Cole does not expect it to unsettle the former Everton man.
“I don’t think he will take it on board, to be honest,” said Cole, who formed a devastating attacking partnership with Dwight Yorke in his Old Trafford days.
“I think people looked at his record when he was at Everton and West Brom, and that he had never done particularly well against the big teams. He never seemed to get himself a goal or get involved, but I think that will change at United.
“It was very difficult for him at Liverpool because he didn’t have many touches of the ball. But with the way the game went, he was always going to find it difficult and he did do. The flak he got was unwarranted but that is what he has to expect at Manchester United. Without doubt, he will take it in his stride.”
Cole also believes the draw at Anfield was a good result, despite the criticism of manager Jose Mourinho’s decision to adopt a defensive approach.
“It’s a strange one because, to be brutally honest, there aren’t many times when you go to Liverpool and draw 0-0,” he added. “I can only think back to some of the games we had and we had some proper ding-dongs, when you knew you would get goals. But in the end, in the grand scheme of things, I think 0-0 at Anfield is a good result because you have not lost the game.”
